Distress Paint Marbling: CC3 Challenge 1

While surfing Facebook I discovered a bi-weekly challenge that I taught would be fun to participate in. It's called the Compendium of Curiosities 3 Challenge. This challenge is based on Tim Holtz's new book released at CHA winter. Every other Saturday Linda posts on her blogthe new challenge. You then look up the technique/product in Tim's Book and complete a project that uses that technique/product. Then link your project back onto the challenges post page. I like that you can then click on each one of the projects linked and see all the amazing pieces of art that others have created. There is even a bonus, Inspiration Emporium donated a $50 gift certificate for one lucky random winner of this challenge. So now that you know a little more about cc3, let's get started!

For the CC3 challenge 1, I decided to create a tag using the Distress Paint Marbling technique. I like to practice techniques onto smaller surfaces like tags and then once I have them mastered try them on a larger surface like an Art Journal page. I usually then end up putting the tags into my Art Journal too as embellishments and layers.

I'm totally in LOVE with the new frameworks dies that Tim Holtz released at the winter CHA show. These are an awesome way to use up all of those scrap pieces of paper that you can't find yourself throwing out. When I'm done with a project, I'll run the scraps through my Big Shot machine with one of the frameworks dies and then throw all of the random die cut pieces into a basket to dig in later. All of the embellishments on this tag, were fished out of my scrap basket that I had used previously on an Art Journal page. The frame is die cut from Ranger's Foil Tape. The inserts were die cut from wood paper, sticky back canvas, patterned paper with glossy accents on top, dictionary pages and a scrap embossed paper covered in gesso.

The Queen Bee is from Unity Stamps. I stamp the bee onto watercolor paper with Archival Ink and colored the image in with Distress Markers. For the crown I added a little of Pewter Distress Stain with my water brush and Silver Liquid Pearls on the tips.

Thank you for stopping by and taking a look at my latest creation. Please feel freee to leave a comment.

#iloveyou 12 tags of 2014 February

This is my version of Tim's February tag. I did the same idea and techniques that Tim did, but I made it my own by switching up the stamps and addind different embellishments. I love the Chalk technique and yes we have the embossing powder in stock.

I then couldn't just stop there. I wanted to put it in my Art Journal, so I completed a page with a similiar look but different blackboard looking technique with distress paint. I also used the heart stencil on the page's background and this time I applied some red stencil paste for more texture. I love how the red pops and resisted the distress paint.

Shoe Box Card Swap

What is a shoe box swap? A shoe box swap is where you create a card and bring enough supplies so each person can create your card. All supplies are put in a shoe box (or other box) and are passed person to person to create. If we have 10 people you will leave with 10 different cards.

There will not be a theme for this swap but all cards are to be full cards. Please bring enough supplies for ever...yone to make your card including all cardstock, stamps, inks, embellishments, tools, etc., along with your own adhesive and basic tools (like scissors, bone folder, etc) to use on all the projects we make. Please make sure all of your supplies are labeled with either your name or initials, so we all go home with the stuff we brought. Each person is to provide a sample of their card for reference in your box. Please also separate your supplies into individual baggies or envelopes containing everything each person needs to do your card. This really helps make the swap go more smoothly. You do not need to provide envelopes. PLEASE make sure to use a good quality paper and cardstock. You have to provide everything needed to make the card you design.

This will be a once a month swap. I'm currently looking at doing it the first Tuesday of every month @ 6:00pm starting in March. There will be a $5 deposit to put your name on the list for this swap and then you will get a $5 store coupon the night of the swap. This is to just make sure that everyone that said they wanted to do the swap shows up. I would hate to tell you 10 people are doing the swap and you prep and cut up supplies for 10 and then only 4 actually show up. Deadline to sign up for March swap is Feb. 25th. You can then call the store or check facebook for the final head count.

Throw nothing out!

I can't tell you how many times I threw out the plastic packaging from my last Sizzix Die purchase and then on recycling day dug it back out of the trash. Deep down I guess I knew that I could create something amazing with it, I just needed the perfect project. I love using my Bigshot machine and Bigz dies with all kinds of different materials. So I decided to play with one of my favorite Tim Holtz Christmas dies, the Tattered Poinsettia, and the clear plastic packaging from my Bigz die. The "Tattered Poinsettia Glass Ornament" is my latest creation to be featured on Ranger Inks website. You can click on the link and learn how you can create this beautiful Christmas ornament with Stickles Dry Fine Glitter and Glossy Accents.
